At Cameron Landscaping, Safety Is Important To Us, And We Know It’s Important To You. The truth is many contractors do very little in the way of training to ensure the safety of employees, clients and the general public. This is a real concern with respect to legal liability and the cost incurred as a result of a preventable accident.
To compliment our continuous efforts to maintain a safe working environment without incident, we have enlisted dedicated health and safety organizations to assist in our training and to independently verify we are compliant with WSIB legislative standards and industry best practices.
The primary purpose of our training is to make workers safe, confident and efficient on the job, and to protect Owners, Property Managers and Crew Leaders from liability resulting from a poorly trained worker.
Prior to a new employee becoming an active member in their position, they are subjected to an orientation session involving company policies and procedures including Health and Safety, WHMIS and the requirement of personal protective equipment. This is again reviewed on commencement of each season.
In addition to in house & field training, employees must also participate in a comprehensive online training program in the use of Landscape Maintenance, Construction, and Snow Removal vehicles & equipment and demonstrate their expertise in a practical exam conducted by their Supervisor. No employee is permitted to operate independently in the field until they have demonstrated the knowledge and ability to operate the equipment in a correct and safe manner.
In combination with the above activities, regular sessions are held with employees to ensure specific hazard awareness within the field plus routine meetings involving members of our Joint Health and Safety Committee.
Employee’s designated to manage teams or crews within our operation are required to be certified in First Aid and CPR prior to assuming their position of Foremen or Supervisor.
To verify we are in compliance of our legal responsibility in regard to Employee Health & Safety, we have submitted our policies & procedures to several third parties known as Contractor Check, Comply Works and PICS. These organizations assess the Health & Safety policies and procedures of contractors to ensure they meet legislative standards and industry best practices. Cameron Landscaping meets these standards and has been accredited by these organizations.
Health and Safety Policy
The management of CAMERON LANDSCAPING is vitally interested in the health and safety of its employees. Protection of employees from workplace injury & illness is a major, continuing objective.
CAMERON LANDSCAPING will strive to provide a safe, healthy work environment and follow all legislative requirements. All supervisors and workers must be dedicated to the continuing objective of reducing risk of injury & illness.
As an employer, CAMERON LANDSCAPING is responsible for worker health and safety. As president, I give my personal promise that every reasonable precaution will be taken for the protection of workers.
Foremen / Supervisors will be held accountable for the health & safety of the workers under their supervision. Foremen / Supervisors are responsible for ensuring machinery and equipment are safe, and employees work in compliance with established safe practices and procedures. Workers must receive adequate training in their specific tasks to protect their health and safety.
Every Worker must protect their own health and safety by working in compliance with the law and with safe work practices and procedures established by the Company.
It’s in the best interest of all parties to consider health and safety in every activity. Commitment to health and safety must be an integral part of this organization, from the president to the worker.
